The weight of musical arrangements

Post by Lav!tz on Tue Jul 19, 2011 2:02 pm

I had an interesting discussion with the member "mac and cheese" from the forum "JPop Central". Bottom line is, I didn't notice before but Mizuno also composed New World Music, the arrangement, on the other hand, was by Tsutaya Kouichi which hadn't worked with Iki until now, if I'm not mistaken. That lead me to ponder the influence of the musical arrangements added to the many songs written and composed by either Mizuno or Hotaka, seeing as it sounds so different from what Iki usually plays.

What do you think? Do you think that Iki would be different nowadays had they been working with other producers? Are the arrangements secondary to an implemented IkimonoGakari style? Or maybe even, should Mizuno and Hotaka take it all the way and be in charge of the musical arrangements?

I think they should continue with their signature music, their music sounds unique and playful and that's why I like them~

sometimes whether they like it or not, for the sake of marketing and sales, the management has to select songs that would fit to the preferences of the buyers even if it compromise the original iki music style.

^ what masterjz said.

Plus, yes I agree the arrangement does change the style and sound, but not as much as if there were a different composer.

many times ikimonogakari follow music trend in japan, 2 last album has proven that but yoshiki still in there for arrangement of the music, but this time is different the music is so Japanese standard, luckily the clip still has ikimonogakari flavor in it........

I think they're musical explorations.., I Hope They are will Back to Iki's Typical..
Harmonica, and The Blend of Electric and Acoustic Guitar, That's Why I Love Their Song...

Let's See In Iki's New Song in The Future...,
But, I'm Still Hoping Their Not Changing Their Music....

i think the changes that happen in their music is just an experiment to make their music better and not monotone. i thought yamashita's harmonica, mizuno leadership in their music, and kiyoe's cheerish voice, and their anime-theme song is the part of their identity. their producer isn't fool to let that one change.
